Ol Donyo Lodge

Horse riding holiday in kenya

Ol Donyo Lodge is a family-owned lodge located on a communally-owned Maasai Group Ranch with exclusive use of 70,000 acres of the reserve with magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro. In 2008 the lodge was completely redesigned and rebuilt, along sound environmental and conservation lines.

This is arguably Kenya's finest lodge - with 10 cottages comprising one family cottage with 2 separate bedrooms, bathroom, open veranda and a plunge pool, as well as 6 pool cottages with separate plunge pools, en suite bathrooms and outdoor showers, and 2 cottages without a pool. All cottages have roof-top star beds for those who love to sleep outdoors. The gem of this camp is the variety of activities, from horse riding, game drives, walks, hikes, mountain bike rides, village visits and day expeditions to the Amboseli.

The lodge is well known for its homely, warm, child friendly and welcoming atmosphere and is the touchstone of a new, sustainable model of conservation tourism, securing a future for the area's threatened wildlife. It boasts a communal swimming pool, open fires and a wine cellar, and can accommodate up to 20 people. The lodge is staffed by people from the local community and produces fabulous all inclusive meals.

Ol Donyo Lodge boasts a staggering array of activities.

Included in the all-inclusive rate are early morning and late afternoon/early evening 4x4 game drives, bushwalks with armed guides, half and full-day horseback safaris (with a choice of over 20 quality horses that suit all experience levels), guided mountain bike safaris, visits to the open-air hide or “log-jam”, romantic roof top “star-beds” sleep out experiences, authentic Maasai cultural visits, and tracking with the Bloodhounds.

The all-inclusive rate includes most activities, all meals, all local drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, house wines and laundry.
