Riding Ability

To provide you with a safe and enjoyable holiday we believe it is important that you correctly identify the level of your riding ability and match this to the demands of the ride and the types of horses and riding you will experience on your trip. To assist you we have we have provided a riding ability questionnaire. Each rider in the party must complete a questionnaire before we can complete the final confirmation of your holiday booking.

Using the following categories of rider ability and experience, you can identify the category that best describes you:

Novice Rider

New Rider

You may have had a few lessons and be able to walk and trot or you may have no riding experience

 

Novice Rider

Novice

You will have had lessons at a riding school or ridden a friend's horse. You are able to mount and dismount, walk and rise to a trot, and canter in an indoor school or outdoor arena. You may have done some hacking out.

 

Intermediate Rider

Intermediate

You ride regularly and may own, or have owned, your own horse. You may have competed at local level or done some long distance riding. You will be used to riding out in the company of others and be able to control your horse at walk, trot and canter and take a jump. You will have previous experience of several different horses.

 

Experienced Rider

Experienced/Intermediate and Professional

You will own your own horse and will be riding several times a week. You will have competed, hunted or taken part in long distance riding You have experience and are confident over difficult terrain and can control a horse at all paces, including galloping and jumping over small obstacles. You have previous experience of many horses. You may have spent many years either working with horses, riding on a daily basis or competing at a National or International level.

Families

Many of our rides are suitable for children and families. However we stress that you must decide on the level of your child’s riding ability and take advice from instructors where appropriate. The categories above are broadly the same for children.

Non-Riders

We provide bespoke holidays all over the world and the majority of our trips are equally attractive to non riders or combined parties. Many of our holidays can combine other sports packages such as golf tours, spa visits, and visits to historic sites. Call us and we will design your bespoke holiday.
