'We've tried organising the routes ourselves but the staff at Redlands are really knowledgeable and took all the hard work out of it' - Gavin White
The Dorset Downs covers most of central and eastern Dorset - a huge area with lots of different types of countryside including open chalk downs, wooded river valleys and wide open countryside with miles of grassy tracks. The centre of the network is quite hilly.
There are deserted dry chalk valleys or 'bottoms' where you can believe you're in a time warp from a couple of centuries ago, with picture-postcard villages along the spring line below the downs. You'll see plenty of wild flowers, banks of orchids, deer, buzzards, country house, and prehistoric stone circles.
On this network, we offer one centre holidays with a variety of 'petal' rides, as well as some 'place-to-place' options.
This route from Milton Abbas to Tolpuddle, via Piddlehinton, is either a 17.25 mile ride, with two pub-stops, or a short-cut can reduce it by 5 miles, missing out the second pub-stop. It takes you along pre-historic trackways right through the heart of the remote chalk country of central Dorset.
Five miles into the ride, at Doles Hill Plantation, you reach the tee-out point for the additional loop to the Piddle valley and after this you head north across the downs to Plush, another pretty village nestling under the downs at the head of Watcombe Bottom. A picturesque ride for all.
Call us on +44 (0)1225 000000 or email contact@redlandsequestrian.com to check the ride availability and dates, once we have confirmed availability you can download and fill in a booking form:
Each rider in the party must also complete a riding ability questionnaire before we can complete the final confirmation of your holiday booking.
